Did anyone here have a serious attempt at 'making it' with a band?

My band got to number 6 in the ITunes Album charts this May.

I played at Download a few years ago...immediately after which the singer quit and we couldn't find anyone else, so that was that  Another chap on this forum was in the band on straight after us that day too. Separately, I lived at uni with a few guys in a band called the Crocketts, so got to see the whole process a band goes through getting established, signed etc., which was really interesting (back before the internet was a huge thing). I remember one day they came back from London loaded up with Gibsons, Fenders and some massive amps that the record company had paid for, which was a bit of an eye-opener seeing as we were still living in student accommodation at the time.

The Crocketts. Been trying to remember their name for ages. Played a gig at the fortress studios for the millennium. My band at the time evil Knievel, them, the yo yos and pulkas. Things got delayed as somone had to clean up vomit after Danny from yo yos vomited on stage. 

I've just been out with my friend who headlined Wembley arena once.
