I haven't had this happen before. Won a Guitar Stand and paid and got notification then 4 days later get this email from ebay:

not sure what you expect people to help you with ? contact ebay and ask whats going on / contact paypal and put a block on the paypal and dispute it straight away.

Don't eBay normally do that when they've discovered some issue with the item (ie dodgy) or the seller (dodgy or hacked)?

Either way, its an eBay intervention rather than something initiated by the seller, so - as above - open an eBay / PP dispute.

And I've edited the thread title so people don't see it and assume that you're stuck down a well with only your mobile phone for help.

(When, obvs, you'd sign up here and get our rescue team on the case )

I had this happen on an item I bought, the payment never went through and I was not left out of pocket. There's no need to worry you'll have your money back without problems (if the payment went through at all). 

Edit: Sorry just re-read your post and as no payment was made there's nothing to worry about. Just find another suitable item.

And on a serious note - if they cancelled it and you paid, they will refund. If nothing else their "seller didn't post" thing will kick in.

I had this once on an item that was had a B.I.N price that was obviouslly too good to be true.

Like @Zepp76 said, eBay stop the transaction from going through so payment won't be taken and that'll be that, you won't get the item but you also won't have the money taken.

as TTony said it's a regular template that ebay send out (i've had it too).
it may be that your seller has been sending out contact messages saying 'forget paypal and pay me via bank transfer to my granny in siberia etc'.
when this comes to ebays attention they shut down the account and all uncompleted transactions get this message. i got my money back, others above seems to have too.
