NGD! Well – Friday was NGD.
Gibson ES 335 P90 model. I
own a 339 but have always looked a bit silly playing it since I’m over 6 foot!
A friend of mine had decided he was going to move this on as he was playing his
Gibson ES 135 more recently. It’s worth noting he has original examples of an
ES 345 and ES 330. Both player grade but seriously cool! He found he wasn’t
playing them as much as he had this 335 so he made the decision to sell this
and play the originals
It’s all original with Gibson
fitted P90’s.
From what I can tell, these
were a limited run in 2012 and don’t seem very common. I believe it may be a
traditional pro or a twist on a traditional pro… Hopefully someone else here on
the forum can educate me! The volumes are push pull pots and basically switch
the pickups to being “underwound” or normal. Locking Grover tuners which I didn’t
like at first (I’m a Kluson kinda guy) but I can’t deny how well they do their
job after using them all weekend.
I had 3 different gigs with
different bands on the weekend and took this as my main guitar to all the gigs.
I’ve been extremely impressed! Seems very versatile and sounds perfect for my styles
of music (Americana/Blues/Jazz e.t.c.).

Not me playing on that vid –
great player and good example of the sounds on offer.

Odd that they're so rare as so many people like the idea. Even if it's not part of the core lineup, I'm surprised that they've not done more runs of this model.
I've e mailed them to ask for more details. Will report back if I hear anything of use!
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself
I'm usually a Tele player. I have humbuckers covered in an R7 so the from a Gibson point of view, I've got a different bases covered.
They do make a bit of noise but nowhere near a strat or tele in my experience. As a blueser/rocker - I reckon you could be converted to being a p90's kinda guy, Pip!
