    I use these

    ISO-L8R155-1.jpg

I noticed immediately that I had more clarity in the low end
I'm guessing that it's because the monitors are less able to resonate on the desk top

also, the adjustable height / tilt is useful so that you can line up the height of the tweeters with your ears
    Thanks man.
    They look ace.
    they are good...

I did the whole equilateral triangle thing too...
basically, equal distances between the monitors and the listening position
    tweeters at ear height
monitors away from corners / wall [as best as I could given the space in my little studio]
it all made quite a difference to my mixes
and I'm not great at it if I'm honest...
so a pair of Yamaha HS7 monitors on the stands, reasonably well positioned really helped me a lot..

play every note as if it were your first

I know about the triangle thing so I'll try that too.
My desk is in the middle of a wall so no corners and the distance between them will be the distance I sit back so that'll work too.
It's more of a Stereo-for-a-small-room than a mixing/recording thing but now I have all the equipment I need to record, I just need to work out how, so setting them up properly to start with will mean *when* I can, it *might* sound ok.....ish. ;)

    Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
I'll see what I can afford to buy and rig up over the next week or two.

My TB2s are sitting on those. The tilt is very useful indeed and they do decouple the speakers from the desk well.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....
