I did the whole equilateral triangle thing too...
basically, equal distances between the monitors and the listening position
tweeters at ear height
monitors away from corners / wall [as best as I could given the space in my little studio]
it all made quite a difference to my mixes
and I'm not great at it if I'm honest...
so a pair of Yamaha HS7 monitors on the stands, reasonably well positioned really helped me a lot..
My desk is in the middle of a wall so no corners and the distance between them will be the distance I sit back so that'll work too.
It's more of a Stereo-for-a-small-room than a mixing/recording thing but now I have all the equipment I need to record, I just need to work out how, so setting them up properly to start with will mean *when* I can, it *might* sound ok.....ish.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
I'll see what I can afford to buy and rig up over the next week or two.
I said maybe.....
