I'm pretty good at the old Hoss racing lark having worked in a Bookies chalking up as
a youth as an early job .It did however give me a fantastic insight and experience of
horse racing and gambling ..I don't want to bore you all so to proceed I do require a
reply ..I'm not selling you anything and not a tipster or journalist before you ask.
I will answer any question to the best of my knowledge which is fairly extensive.

  • I heard he sprouted wings and turned into a Pegasus, then flew off to the sunny Irish countryside.

It's strange how the TV ads always show hot, successful young women having a casual bet, winning large while having a grand old time; while most of the bookies I've been in are full of sour faced old men staring off into the middle distance while a half full packet of rich tea sits on the formica table before them.

    This.

Even the few casinos I've been in (Vegas and Macau) were largely full of miserable-looking folk, mechanically pushing around chips and cards without any sign of joy or excitement.

Then again, maybe they were just doing their shifts at "work", before clocking off and collecting their Ferraris from the parking valet.  In which case I'll concede they get the last laugh.

As my Grandad use to say - you never see a bookie on a push bike.

To this end I believe that the best approach these days if you must gamble is to play bookie and lay on the exchanges. It’s not without risk of course...

If you don’t want to take risks then look into matched betting. A member here kindly directed me into matched betting and I’m very thankful to him.

Looking for mad bastards? Go and chat to that queue of blokes outside the bookies ten minutes before it opens, raging alcoholism broken marriages and just plain old crazy can be found. Strong chance of piss/human ashtray aroma too.

  • I work with a guy who does a shit load of overtime and spends whatever spare cash he has on the horses.  He rarely wins and when he does he thinks it’s great, but he never understands that he hasn’t really won because of the money he’s lost previously.  He did win big a lot of years ago, about £7k on some outsider, and he said that he was going to quit.  The next week he was back at it again.

Never been in a bookies. Not really sure how to place a bet. Not really bothered. My mum used to chalk up the odds, back in the day, and was, in a very small way, a pretty successful gambler on the horses. Small stakes.
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I don't gamble on sports much. Usually just the stock market. The odds are generally better since there isn't a house edge. (Unless you count dealer fees)
