NGD 1965 Epiphone Coronet - Holy Hell!

What's Hot

Just gotten this baby home and jesus is it amazing. One of, if not the nicest sounding guitar I've ever played. The P90 is unlike any other I've heard, so warm but it screams! Intonation is surprising pretty good for a vintage guitar with a wraparound, neck is straight as an arrow and the recent refret means it plays a lot better than you'd think. Tuning isn't amazing but I can live with that. Definitely players grade but this is my first vintage guitar and now I know what all the fuss is about, it's in a different league!

Nice!  I've always liked those old Epiphone models.

The affordable route to vintage, I guess, although not as affordable as they once were!

I like those old Epis. You've chosen wisely.

  • That is a really cool one!

  • I was a little dubious going in about the playability with it being so old and more of a beginner model, but it plays surprisingly well. Not as precise or perfect as a custom shop or anything but in a way I like it, definitely has a tonne of personality!

There aren't very many gtrs on this forum that I am truly jealous of, but this is one! Looks great, bet it sounds great. Curious about the effect of the metal cover on the P90 - maybe that's why it sounds different - I imagine the cover tames some of the highs?

  • Never really played one of these they look a little neck heavy balance wise but I dont know.
Certainly a bit jealous an interesting alternative to standard juniors.

    Congratulations!

know exactly what you mean - two of my vintage guitars would be called cut down models (Les Paul Specials).

Old bit of wood and a P90 pickup rocks!

  • I’m not sure what it is about the pickup but it sounds alive! I’ve had a few juniors and stuff before but always found them a bit drab, whatever is in this thing is incredible though

It’s actually suprisingly well balanced actually, very light though

  • A decent old P90 solidbody straight into a decent amp turned upto stun level is a wonderful thing.  Yours looks lovely, congratualtions!

  • I remember that very guitar from a Greenwoods Ebay ad, was very close to pulling the trigger as I loved the wear. Where did you get it from? Very cool!

Swapped my custom shop strat for it with a guy down in Stevenage, it's got some stunning patina

    That’s awesome. Well played!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.
