    Is that 115 quid each for a return flight to the canaries? How can anyone complain about that? It’s the same price as 200 cigarettes, or about 30 pints of Guinness at Edinburgh prices. It costs me 70 quid to fill the tank in my car (with petrol, not Guinness) :)

    The thing to do with Ryanair is price the flight with their premium package option and see how it comes out. Usually cheaper than anyone else still.
    Yup. We are flying to crete in october. We just looked at flight plus premium option. Was 100's cheaper across 4 people than the next available.

    But I think the complaint isn't about the final cost.. more about how hidden some costs are these days.
    @Teetonetal ;
    ;Thank you sooo sooo much - I am NOT complaining about the price. Take a look at a ferry + car and travel across Europe it makes flights cheap as chips.

    I paid £180 for 2 return tickets to Tenerife on BA , via Opodo  ..... leave on Wednesday. I don't know what the catch is, I don't fly often but booking through Opodo was cheaper than booking on BA which I don't get ?

    Got a flight with Ryanair. Unless you pay extra then hand luggage is now all you can take on board: 30cm x 20cm x 20 cm
    I certainly don't want to be a Ryanair apologist (!) ... but this is potentially a bit misleading.

    It's true that the above is what you're allowed to take *into the cabin* without paying extra - but you're also allowed (without paying any fee) to take to the gate a second bag up to 55 x 40 x 20cm and 10kg, which will then be put in the hold.

    You can also check in child car seats and pushchairs without a fee.  I assume regulations prevent Ryanair from charging for those, otherwise they undoubtedly would go full Pixies on us and Gouge Away.

    If I have a choice, I'll use any other carrier - but when buying tickets for a family of four, Ryanair is often *way* cheaper than the competition (as long as you watch those baggage rules like a hawk).  So (presumably like everyone else on board), I just grit my teeth and look forward to putting the savings towards a very nice holiday.
    @djspecialist ;

    The full 148 pages are here:

    https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/useful-info/help-centre/terms-and-conditions

    OK here is a question, can you put a laptop in the hold? So you now need to understand the differentiation between hand, cabin and hold. I was advised today "pay extra or take the battery out of the laptop and place in the hold." This wasn't via facebook this was via Ryanair (both phone and online chat - the latter became confusing hence the call). So at the moment "It depends"? Tried taking a battery out of a modern laptop? Used to be easy. How many lithium batteries are allowed?

    Did you know that you there is now a market for cabin vests which allow you to carry on board a laptop (or whatever) as there is no limit what you can take on board carried on a person? Is this true?? I don't know.

    https://www.skyscanner.net/news/best-wearable-luggage-jackets-reviewed-beat-airline-baggage-charges

    And from there:

    "Value: 5/5 At £29.95 for an adult Roo, this is the cheapest luggage jacket in our test and with the cost of checking in a 20kg bag on Ryanair as much as £45 (or £140 if you do it at the airport!) – you’ll be making savings straight away."

    So, . .  worst case £140 at the airport is that because they would need more fuel? So if everybody turned up with all these devices? You see the game we start here?

    LOL if ppl want to 'beat the system' then try this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bagket-22-transformable-shoulder-Pockets-travelling/dp/B00A6SQM94/ref=pd_cp_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=XMETPGM0PE8P5WZZ0MVK

    I repeat I do NOT want to save money. I want to fly from my local airport without being hassled saying I cannot get onto a flight because my single bag small bag is too heavy please remove things from the bag. FFS - I am sooo so sorry What is wrong with me?? They are gouging people in my opinion. I understand why. I was just warning folk here about my latest observations in a forum friendly kind of way and in my opinion it is insidious behaviour.

    @Danny1969 Just double check the T&Cs if unsure as to what you are taking then IMO call them up before hand is my recommendation. We paid over £200 for the same flight to Tenerife. BA used to be the deluxe but they have to take part in these 'basics' only. May be they are perfect I don't know - Just figure out what you expect to do then call them up and ask if OK.

    T&Cs take care of the legalese IMO 148 pages from Ryanair and then no doubt that is 'open to interpretation' which translates to sorry (unless you can get your case on the Money Programme).

    Good luck.

    Might see you in Tenerife :-) Which part? PM me

  • Do Ryan air scan all bags after security then? Just wondering how on earth they would know what you have packed. I have never been asked to remove a laptop battery.

    It's getting worse all the time.
    Only the other day I tried to take a measly 2 kilos of cocaine in my hand luggage and they wouldn't let me on the plane.
    I wasn't even given the option of putting it in the hold.

    The catch is, it’s with BA. They get pretty lousy reviews these days and certainly aren’t the premium airline they used to be (and still think they are). But it’s a relatively short flight so I wouldn’t sweat it.

    I’m guessing but I take it firms like Opodo hoover up spare seats at discounted prices...presumably the airlines prefer the aircraft doesn’t fly out with empty seats, so are prepared to drop the price.

    Ditto.

    I go where the price is the price and you get your full luggage and carry on allowance. Also proper grub and you are treated like a human being.

    Why are you surprised? If you get the flight for below the economic cost of the cost of operating the aircraft divided by the number of passengers, then they have to get the money back by other means. This is how budget airlines work - advertising artificially low prices to attract customers and then screwing them once they've booked.

    How much was the flight?
    Absolutely spot on @ICBM ;

    As for the negativity about Michael O’Leary, he lives close to where I live and he is good for the locality. Rare cattle breeds, chech. Horses, check. Repairs to the church or church grounds, check.

    If if anyone wants cheap flights, there might be some restrictions.

    There is the catch all about hand luggage anyway. If the lockers are deemed full they can take your bag and stow it in the hold because it's unsafe to have it loose in the cabin.
    There is only so much space in the cabin and people try to use as much of it as they can and others expense. There is a big hold on aeroplanes for a reason.
    Wouldn't it be fun to evacuate in a hurry only to find some git trying to recover 2 pieces of luggage, a laptop, a camera and coat!
    Two sides to every story i guess.

    Sounds mad, but someone shot a video inside a plane being evacuated.  Imagine their surprise when things started to burn very rapidly...

    Turns out there's a reason why the stewards & stewardesses practice emptying a plane quickly!

    Whoops - sorry was just pointing out the latest shenanigans. Just couldn't find a Qatar flight from Cardiff - obviously they are crap too??
    Sorry, I guess my words came out a bit aggressive/snooty...

    I was really just pointing out that, as consumers, you do have a choice.

    And that I don't like the add-ons, sharp practice, etc., so I've never used them.

    Mind you, I haven't flown in a few years.
