Paypal alert

What's Hot
Hi - for the less technical, I know there's a lot of payal users on here. Just had a text saying 'suspicious activity ... please sign in and check' or words to that effect. Short link supplied in message that leads to a payal login page .... or is it? I don't think so, http at start of url not https, plus it wasn't a paypal.com or paypal.co.uk domain.

So, if you get one, don't use the supplied link - log in the normal way and chack.

Sorry to sound paranoid, but had a bellyful of this stuff

  • Yeah these are annoyingly common, not just 'PayPal' either...

If ever in doubt visit the site yourself via your browser, don't use any email links.

Simple rule - never ever click on links in emails.

I see dozens of these emails every day purporting to come from banks, amazon, paypal - you name it. Some are pretty convincing. It's a never-ending plague of phishing and malware.

The usual formula is, "something alarming has happened to your account. We are so concerned that we have provided a hyperlink at the bottom of this page. Don't delay. No time to go through the recommended secure log-in procedures. Re-enter your address and payment details NOW. Hurry. Hurry. Hurry."

Sometimes, the terminology, phrasing and spelling are slightly "off" - as if composed by somebody whose first language is not English.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Forward it to PayPal. Most companies have a dedicated email address to forward spam attempts etc. Every little helps.

If you hover over their link you'll discover it's not kosher. Just do as @JezWynd says forward it to the real people and then delete itl

    Good, sound advice.

So good, in fact, that the organization I work for thought it should be communicated to all staff ... by putting it on the website and emailing a link to all staff.

I still don’t know whether to be in awe of their sense of irony or their stupidity.

I had one yesterday purportedly from Google, saying someone had tried to log in to my Rocketmail account.

Which was fine, except Rocketmail is a Yahoo email address.

    Twats.

I love doing this when they send me an email to an email account that has no Paypal linked to it!
