It's a Roland GK2 pickup system, it converts the string vibrations into midi data which goes into the floor unit GR33 synth.
Strictly speaking, the GK hexaphonic pickup sends six discrete voltage signals down the 13-pin cable. This signal is sufficient in itself to "drive" the Roland VG-8, -88 and -99 series sound generation units and some BOSS COSM pedals without introducing any pitch conversion processing delay.

MIDI conversion occurs in the box (i.e. the GR and VG devices).

I used to like the Dimarzio Chopper in my strat, the T one sounds pretty decent in the clips I've heard of it. It's quite a thick humbuckery sound but still seems a bit twangy. Think Richie Kotzen uses them.

I have a 89 Squier tele that is a lovely guitar, and for over 20 years has been modded a lot. I've just bought a set of Tonerider TRT2 Hot Classics, which from what I have read are just what they say - a hotter version of the standard type tele. Not fitted yet, but will review once done. 60 quid for the set, get great reviews.

Looks like you're enjoying them :)

I got a set of humbucker-sized P90s from Oil City, originally just to have "something different" as I already had a couple of humbucker guitars. First play of them was a pleasant surprise and they've just grown on me even more since to become my favourite pickups. I'd be very keen to go back to Oil City if I have any further pickup needs.

P.S. those have got to be close to costing as much as the whole rest of your guitar surely? lol
