Older American Rock musicians

I've been watching a lot of rock documentaries recently. One thing that has struck me is that really bad Photoshop look around American Rock musicians. 
They look at rough as fuck, yet wear layers of foundation and makeup, yep you take your average older UK musician and they wear their age with pride.

Culture of youth over there. Plus the fact that most of them don’t want to change (visually or musically). If they made it in the 1970s then they retain that style. If they made it in the 80s then they still try to look like that, etc. Bit pathetic really.

The thing is somebody like Keith Richards who really is death warmed up, Looks younger than somebody like Joe Perry.

Then look at Actresses. Came Judy Dench looks far better than her American contemporaries and wears her age with grace.

Lots of them have surgery - Steven Tyler, Gene Simmonds - even Springsteen it has been suggested. That said, both McCartney and Jeff Beck’s hair colour is atypical of most people in their mid-70s....

Someone like Danny Bowes from Thunder is a good example of the UK musician for me - people remember him with his flowing locks, but then he cut it all off in the late 90s and these days looks like Lou Carpenter from Neighbours - but he’s still out there doing his thing and it makes no difference to him as a performer.

To be fair to Joe Perry, he's doing pioneering work in the world of facial hair.

Either that, or he's just eaten a cat.

Playing the devils advocate card, I ask why not use makeup and hair color if it makes you feel better? Why should anyone act their age? I don’t and I won’t.
