Hi guys,

Long time no post. Recently sold a Palmer 1x12 cab and on the lookout for something else, but perhaps a bit smaller in cab size, if it is possible.

The dimensions of the Palmer were (W x H x D): 580 x 450 x 290 mm and it weighed just over 16KG.

I am using a Quilter 101 mini head, and I have a 1x8 Orange cab at home, which, I think, would be way too small to use in a live scenario.

Are there many cabs options out there that would be smaller in size but still able to take a 1x12? I guess something the size of a Blus Junior would be in that ballpark?

My other option is a 1x10, and these seem to be hard to come by too.

Matrix do a tiny 1x12. As do BluGuitar and probably DV Mark. Alternatively Zilla has his Dinky (I think it’s called).

I've got a Zilla Dinky (open back) with a creamback neo in it. I've used it loads, tiny footprint, solid build and very light with the neo.
    Highly recommended.

  • The victory 1x12 cab is pretty compact, I used one with a Blackstar HT5 head. It was a really nice sounding compact rig.

    Zilla Cabs "Dinky".

Doubt you'll get a smaller 12" speaker cab.

Unless you make one yourself. I built myself a 1x12” cab:

    It’s about 34cm x 36cm x 20cm, so 10cm smaller than the Dinky in each dimension.

That's to be applauded. And with the small amp, that's about as minimalist as you can get without going to a smaller speaker size.

    What does it sound like?

I'd love to be able to build my own cab, but I can barely cook! Thanks for the suggestions folks. In Ireland, I'll be ordering online as there wouldn't be a huge choice with small cabs buying from new.
On another note, how come guitar cabs are so expensive, or seem to be expensive to me anyway. Wood? Speaker?

I've got a Markbass 121 bass cab, which is small and light; I plan to get another.

I like that - I've been thinking about making a living room friendly cab.

Thanks. It’s pretty good, thanks to the Celestion Blue in there. Like @prowla I wanted a better looking and more compact lounge amp than the things I could see for sale, so I thought I’d give it a go.
