I know I'm a dinosaur when it comes to these things, and have never marched in step with The World, but in any range you only really want three things:

 - budget/value
 - standard
 - posh

Having the Squier/Fender and Epiphone/Gibson splits kind of complicates things further, but ATEOTD for my simple brain they should organise it that the "posh Squier" overlaps slightly with the "budget Fender".

Of course, where the above goes wrong is that it's clear, and the whole point is to confuse the arse off everyone, and also to try to make the people that can only afford the budget option feel like they're not poor relations. Which is just delusional. I've got a Les Paul Studio because I couldn't afford a Standard. Big deal. I've still got one, it still works ...
