I am selling my custom strat for parts. I have never sold a guitar for parts, and as you will see if you read the thread linked above, I have had to seek a lot of guidance on prices and how best to part it out.  These are guide prices for the various parts in combination as suggested by members.  If you want specific parts together then please contact me.  Most importantly, ask questions ... and make comment that you think helpful ... as I said, I am new to doing this.

Fender Custom Shop body, 50s style 2-tone sunburst

It has some dings and knocks around the edges mainly, some on the rear. It looks almost 1-piece as the grain / join is so beautifully matched.

5-digit replica 1959 neck plate

Do you know whether the body is ash or alder?

Looks like ash to me.

Well, in that case I don't know - how can I know for sure?

I could be wrong. One way to tell is to remove some paint from the neck pocket to see the true colour of the actual wood. Sometimes it's not easy to tell from a pic though! Could be alder!

I have a pic of the bare wood in the neck pocket somewhere ... will search it out.

In response to a question ... the neck includes the vintage style tuners.
Again - I stress ... I don't know the best way to split and separate these parts for sale.

Any details on the block - looking for an upgrade for my cp60 strat?

The UK dated neck pocket sig is odd. 

Shielded paint I THINK was used a while back, unless I'm misremembering? Maybe someone shielded it.

The top looks cool, did you check it's not a veneer? Not saying it is just something about it. Could Fender help?

It was built / assembled by a P Murdie and he has marked the date 21/9/05 in a couple of places.  There are two stickers on the guitar with his name on also. One is under the neck plate and one on the reverse of the scratch plate.  The date 21st September (written 21/9) also appears under the spring claw in the tremelo cavity (see original pictures)

Further info given to me about the man who built this guitar. It was built from imported Fender & other parts by a County Durham based guitarist / guitar builder named Peter Murdie. He was in bands through the 60s and beyond. He was a big Hank Marvin / Shadows fan. Apparently, he even wrote a forward in a book about Cliff & the Shadows. He is no longer with us so I was unable to verify or confirm this when I bought the guitar. The man I bought it from was a personal friend / band mate of him so it seems credible.

Re: shielded paint ... I did some research and there was a 'Cunetto' series of Custom shop Fender bodies ... I do not think this is a Cunetto ... but the shielding paint was used on Custom shop bodies at the time apparently.

I sent details and photos to Fender and they confirmed it is one of theirs.

I hope that helps.

Grain pattern on the back of the body is consistent with the pattern on the front.  So, either both are veneered (somewhat unlikely) or it's a solid top (rather more likely).

Look at the grain on the open cavities where the trem block sits and in the neck pocket. It's not a veneer. You can just see where the two matched body parts butt up to one another.

Quick queries for everyone ...

Is it standard practice to keep the neckplate & screws with the neck or the body?

And

Should I sell the block with the trem arm etc?

taking this advice in to account:

Don't bundle the block with the body unless the rest of the bridge comes with it. I would keep the block and the bridgeplate together unless you have the original block to put back, because the bridgeplate will be almost impossible to sell on its own - it's the bit no-one really needs. Probably the saddles and the arm too, but they might actually sell separately.

The original bridge if complete does belong with the body, as does the jackplate, and definitely the neckplate if it has the original US serial number on it.

The simple rule is that in general, keep original stuff together (I know, why should it matter? it's all just parts really - but it does) and sell non-original parts separately.

The neck plate does have a number on it [35770] ... but I don't know what it refers to ... it doesn't say Fender on it.
I don't think the block etc is original to the body as it was a 'custom build' from the very start of its life ... making me think everything was bought as parts. If that is the case ... would the bridge have come with the, sadlles etc have come with the block, the body or as separates in their own right?
