What's Hot

It's my favourite guitar I've ever played

But...I still dont know what it is...

    Correct. The mk1 body shape.

The mini Grovers are a retrofit item - and none too accurately. The truss rod cover ought to be single ply black plastic.

Not sure what year is claimed for the guitar, hence, impossible to say whether Tune-O-Matic and Stopbar combination is original equipment or a modification.

Close up pics required to clarify in detail.

Looks to be a modern Melody Maker. The first verison of single cutaway MM's was only made between 1959 and early 1960 and these had inked on serial numbers. The pressed in serial number and 'made in USA' would make it more modern reissue. Lovely guitar and really like the mods it's had.

Looks like am 86-on Melody Maker. These had humbucker(s), tunomatic bridge and Grovers as standard.

The 2 HB models had sliders for the pickup switching though, and I don't think they came in yellow but from the headstock pic it looks like this was originally Ferrari Red.

Joan Jett played one for a while.

and I owned one briefly this summer, which I see is up for sale again https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283296546275

I sold it in June for £450 which I thought was about right.

  • Nice modded melody maker, shame about the poor alignment of the machine heads. I love melody makers and currently own four of them. My favourite is a 2006 model which is the same colour and shape as yours but doesn’t have a scratchplate and has an amazing P90 dog ear pickup.

and who said Gibson Quality Control was rubbish???
clearly they can repeatedly install machne heads to a "slightly wonky alignment" time after time - that really is consistant!

The single pickup version looks very cool!    I might be way off but 775 feels a bit high.

Lovely guitar in the OP look like that would be a guitar I’d enjoy playing with some great character. Wow from me
