Despite us all being musicians, there seems to be a certain middle class Englishness associated with the guitar buying world that might make it not so safe to talk about that lol

There are so many s/h minters around why would you buy new anyway? Nearly AVRI money on the used market that is (in Yoda voice) :) .

Fender prices have gone up way more over the last ten years than 90% of the guitar market. If you wants a lil piece of writing to say Fxxxer on the headstock then you pay for it.

You can pick up used 80's /90's/00's American Standards/Series for the same or less. American Specials for under £600. Go used.

  • PRS prices can soar too. One I bought (2015) rose in price by 50% withing a year of purchase.
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

    Love me a sonic....

Can you imagine if......in some parallel guitar universe....

Burns had been Fender, and instead of Dupont Cadillac Custom Colors, we'd have got Dulux British Leyland Colours?

Same goes for most of the MIM models. Bought a Baja from Dolphin Music (remember them?) back when they still existed... think I paid £449 tops, might have even been £429. They are now £779 minimum, more if you want the 60s version with the pau ferro board.

It's not just the middle & higher end models that have been price jacked. I bought a new Squier Classic Vibe 50's strat when they first came out. It was £215 shipped. The same model (not MIC anymore) is now around £389... Mind you, I always thought that Fender were hurting their own sales by producing the CV's, as they were so very good for the price.

The price of the £ is weak against the $ so I guess that accounts for price hikes but should the £ strengthen is it likely we'll see prices fall again?

The hikes are a combination of exchange rate, general inflation and corporate greed... the latter meaning that they have hiked the list prices anyway much above the rate of inflation.

To answer your rhetorical question, of course not.

The annoying thing about this is that people who bought these guitars for £700 5 years ago are now asking £750-800 for them because they're now £1000 new!

I did a quick search on ebay to try and back up my point, but ended up finding a used Baja Tele for £835 when you can get them new for £749!
