This means you can turn up your gain and get natural amplifier breakup, and then use the Hotplate to keep that level of distortion, but with a reduced overall volume. Most amps need to be wound open a bit before they start giving up the goods, but this is usually too loud for home or even some gigs, so use an attenuator to dial in the sound/breakup you want on your amp, and adjust the Hot Plate to get the level as low/quiet as you want.
Run a speaker cable from your 'amplifier out' into the back of this Hot Plate, then plug your speaker cable straight into the back as well, it doesn't need any mains power as it's powered by the energy the amp produces.
I hope this explanation helps a little to understand what an attenuator is and why you may want to use one.

Judging by the postage prices stated on Ebay, they are charging £10 delivery.
I'd want to double-box this attenuator, so combining that extra size with the weight of the attenuator itself, it's gonna be at least £10, but then you know you'll be getting a well-packed and tracked item, which is worth the price imho.

I'm considering selling my AC30, so yeah this is still up for grabs, and at a bargain price too!
It's fairly heavy, so combined with protective packaging, the postage is going to be £10+ from experience, if you are not collecting in person.
