Can anyone help explain this?

    Funny.

If this had appeared with strings on in the guitars thread, everyone would be discussing the relative merits of myrtle v mahogany and the various midrange characteristics, and whether it's better glued or bolted or stapled together.

But because it's in here, it's a ridiculous piece of frippery and the wood has no tonal benefits meriting that kind of price.

I'm not expressing an opinion on the cab itself, you understand, just the disparity in responses.  And yes, tolex signifies a working instrument (see latest Guitarist with the Santana real leather covered amp from Mesa - can't remember what it's called - snakebite or rattler or something), whereas wood does signify mood lighting and a framed case queen on the wall.

What are the tonal benefits of myrtle, does anyone know?

No, it's not a ridiculous piece of frippery because it looks nice or might sound a bit different from a standard ply cab - it genuinely will - but because it's TWO AND A HALF THOUSAND POUNDS. You could buy a nice guitar made from similarly pretty wood for that sort of money. This is a box with two not hugely expensive speakers in it. It doesn't even have a posh leather handle...

It is pretty though.  And resonant.  And it's made of pure Andean myrtle.

Edit: Trainwrecks don't have any handle at all.  The Boogie is already an improvement then.  ;)
