MIC Tokais?

Hiya,

Has anyone had any experience with the MIC Tokais, specifically the ES one (ES 60 these days I believe)?

I'm wondering how they compare to the epiphones and ibanezes of the world...

I am custodian of an MIC Tokai SG Standard lookalike.

In some respects, it looks better than an Epiphone SG400 - especially after I took the hardware plating back down to the nickel.

On my example, the selector switch, pots and jack socket were disappointing. The machineheads and pickups were crap.

These things are easy to change on an SG. Less so on a semi-hollow guitar.

More fundamentally, the neck can be flexed rather too easily. I cannot remember whether the frets needed any levelling.

As for how the Tokais compare to other brands, IMO, an Epiphone would be easier to sell.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Gotcha, thanks. The faff to replace pickups and wiring is indeed a factor... Having tried a recent epiphone Sheraton not long ago, I was rather impressed by the stock electronics.

I had a Chinese 335 Tokai, great guitar, easy on par with Epiphone if not better. Pickups not the best but they did the job.

The Chinese Burny's are much better than the Chinese Tokais for about the same money
