    TSA5 is a pretty sweet bargain but I haven't heard it so can't comment. I believe the tone stack is different so I've heard and it's styled more like a blackface Champ than a Tweed one. If you're good with a soldering iron it'd be a great project as like you said it's not the most difficult schematic.

    There are plenty of boutique hand made people who make them as well as Fender who have the Clapton model. For me it seems too much money to spend knowing what little electronics are really in there.

    What about the Ampmaker WF-55? Based on a 5F1 Tweed Champ apparently.

    <edit - OK, you've seen that already I see>

    Get a treble bleed on your volume pot, will keep your tone when you roll back for cleans.

    I was at the Ampmaker offices yesterday (see my thread), and it's a very professional setup. My mate built a 5w champ kit and he's very pleased. You could also consider a Cornell Romany, which is based on the Champ circuit (but with a 10" speaker). It's super versatile as your can select 10W, 2W, 1/4 W or 1/10 W. You can bypass the EQ, which gives it a really raw, lively tweed sound. I've got one and it's the best of both worlds - great for home, and actually giggable (for me anyway). Expensive new, but you can pick them up (like I did) 2nd hand for £4-500. I'm sure it would be fun to build something though if you're a bit handy.

    I bought a C Agnew 518 Tweed amp last year for home use and it's great.  Cost less than £200 if memory serves.

    Their shipping is very reasonable - about $50 and the kit includes everything, including a tweed cab. Only duty you will have is 20% VAT.
