Hiya,

another "it pains me to say this" following my DRRI sale thread... I'm looking to thin the herd and build a bit of dry powder in case something pricey takes my fancy at some point. I've had this one for about 8 years now and objectively it really doesn't get played often - at that point I think I'm mostly holding onto it because "I need an LP just in case and this is as good as it gets without spending silly money". While this is still true, I think it's time to move it on...

2005 Tokai Love Rock LS150 in violin sunburst.

More pics (including pickup cavities, close-ups of dings, etc) here: https://imgur.com/a/pMq86lS

This is basically Tokai's R9-alike, with a lovely flamey top. Upgrades/mods include:

- pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquities humbuckers. PAF style, unpotted, they sound gorgeous and really suit the guitar's quality better than the stock Tokai Mk2s.

- Gibson historic plastics (pickup rings, scratchplate)

- CTS vintage audio taper volume pots to replace the stock linears

- Bell-style trussrod cover

Bought it second-hand in 2011. Annoyingly it doesn't have the model number written in the neck pickup cavity (as is sometimes the case). I did my due diligence at the time based on the:

- one-piece back
- "long" neck tenon (actually more a medium tenon by Gibson standards, but consistent with high-end MIJ Tokais)
- CTS pots and Orange drop caps

Has a few bumps and scratches as befitting a nearly 15yo guitar, especially around the headstock and one in the cutaway (see pics in the gallery). Apart from that it plays beautifully, I had it set up once by Tim Marten (including a bit of fret dressing at the upper end) and have never messed with it since then.

Some neck measurements:

- 0.92" at the 1st fret (23.3mm), 1.00" at the 12th (25.4mm) - so at the chunky end of true 59s, closer to some 58s (as per the Beauty of the Burst table)
- frets: about 0.040" x 0.105"

It really sounds and plays beautifully. For the price of a (cheapish) used LP Standard, you get a lot of guitar for the money.

Comes with a tweed hardcase. I would rather not post that one - first because I don't have a suitable box, but mostly because I'd rather have the buyer see and try it first.

So feel free to drop by in South London (near Crystal Palace) but I am also happy to drive reasonable distances or meet in Central London.

These are a bit of a nightmare to price... Given the pickup upgrade, the price of a new equivalent, and some completed sales on the Bay, I'm going to aim for £950. Feel free to get in touch re: offers though (although I'm not really in a rush to move that one )

Thanks

That is stunning. You'd have to drop at least another £1500 to get a Gibson near the same spec. If I didn't already own a LS160 I'd have it off you. GLWTS.

    Lovely guitar. Nitro, aren't they?

Yes - "nitro finish" in Tokai parlance, which based on consensus is likely to be nitro over some sort of base coat. Still, it will chip if you look at it sideways ;)
