  • Or sell the soul food, get the Mosky Silver horse and pocket the change. Better pedal and beer money. Win win.
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.

  • What are you hoping the tumnus will give you that the soul food doesn't, given that they are based on the same pedal?

Honestly I think its just a desire for change and a bit of GAS. Think I'll stick with the Soul Food.

Now, about those Ibanez TS mini's. They look very nice!

I have not tried the soul food but have the tumnus deluxe. It’s a good pedal but I prefer the Euphoria and for me it’s an always on pedal with low gain set and adds just that special something. The tumnus stacks great with that pedal and the two together are fantastic. I know it’s not really what you asked but just my experience of the tumnus

I'm using the soul food into a modeller (Atomic Amplifire).

I use it in two main ways:
    - Low-medium gain into a clean fender deluxe model, for a crunchy edge of breakup tone.
    - Medium gain into a crunchy Cornford model as a solo boost.

It works well in both applications,  but has that hollow, slightly trebly tone that you can hear in a lot of the YouTube clips.

The Amplifire has it's own internal boosts - screamer, OD, distortion, clean boost and fuzz. Of those I've only really played with the screamer boost and it's pretty good.

External pedals work v well with it though. So I find myself considering other options too.

I've got a Soul Food and it hasn't left my board since I got it a few years ago, but I've been wondering the same thing as you, for probably the same reason if I am honest with myself!

I've tried a couple of other Klones and they're pretty similar (for obvious reasons) - not different enough to warrant splashing the cash though.

A friend has a Tumnus - it will give you more bass and more space on your pedal board. The J Rockett Archer's drive is a bit smoother than the Soul Food - I liked it but not enough to swap.

I have a Soul Food and a J Rockett Archer. They're both good.

Get a s/h Tumnus. Try it and compare so you know what you're not missing. Then flip it. Curiosity satisfied,

...and just in case anyone thinks I'm a total nut job for wondering what pedal to juice the A/D converter of a modeller with, I have it in good authority that my modeller was designed that way...

Has it been traced or is that based on them both being small and gold?

If I was gigging I'd get something else because the Soul Food isn't especially well made, but soundwise it's probably not worth it.

If you do want to go that route give the Frederick Gold Eagle a go. It's still going to sound like a Klone, but it's handmade in the UK which is a plus in my book.

I've just checked out the price of the Golden Horse.

Can't see how anyone is making money out that; I couldn't buy the parts at that price, and would charge more than the retail to fix it.

    Crikey £18.95 from Amazon! Don't suppose anyone's selling a s/h one for a fiver... B) #NorbertColon

  • The Mosky Silver Horse has a toggle switch with 'Gold' and 'Silver' modes.  One (gold I think) has more headroom when the gain is higher than all the way counterclockwise. It's pretty subtle, but probably worth having.

The Soul Food is shite. Sold it within a fortnight.
The Tumnus sounded nice but the buffer weirded out my other pedals.
Would like to try a Sugar drive with switchable buffer.

My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

I’m not an expert at all, but I had a Soul Food for about 3 years and loved it. For the price it’s really fantastic. I bought a Tumnus out of curiosity and it’s almost night and day. Much more of everything, tiny and a rock solid build. I wonder if I should sell the Tumnus at times as I don’t use it much, but then I turn it on and realise how good it is. Massive range on the controls and it just adds something that I really like.
