OK, I admit defeat  B
I'm a Mac user & not entirely inexperienced.
I cannot access any of the extended emoticons (drop down menu, upper right hand corner of composition window).
The limited subset plus all the other settings in the formatting toolbar above the composition window, all work fine.
I've tried using shift/ctrl/alt/cmd key combinations but all to no avail.
Tried Chrome & Safari.
As such things go it isn't really a big deal, but I would like to know what's up.
Cheers.

    Hi, thanks for responding.
As I said  "I cannot access any of the extended emoticons (drop down menu, upper right hand corner of composition window)."
I can click on the icon (upper right of composition window) & the emoji's become visible, but there is no way to select any of them.
Hence my trying using combinations of the keystrokes (shift+
ctrl+alt+ cmd) as additive keys to a mouse click  i.e. ctrl + click etc.

  • Apparently @digitalscream is building a new site that will features all the emojis in the universe. At least, I hope that's the main goal.

It is, of course, the primary aim for the new software.

Unfortunately, I've run into many, many real-life issues which have halted development (as some of you know, this year's been a bit of a bitch). Got some time off in December, when I'm hoping to make some tangible progress...

As for the emoticons, it seems that something's changed in Chrome/Safari (they use the same rendering engine) in the last year which has broken them. Honestly...fixing that in Vanilla's not a massive priority for me right now. However, the autocomplete for emoticons still works.

I don't get why anyone over the age of 14 would want to use an emoticon?

I’ve just tried the emojis to see if they work, and mine didn’t  :'(

It can help to add nuance, that's all.
Stops many inference/implication hiccups in translation... sometimes.

sometimes and sometimes not. I genuinely don't know what the symbols mean, and on my screen they are usually too small to make out anyway even if I did. That said, it's probably not the end of civilisation ...

The extended emojis work ok for me in Safari. Just touch the little </> symbol and the text box will turn cream then choose the emoji from the top right drop-down menu. Then touch </> again to return to the white box. B-)
