Which Marshall Bluesbreaker clone is 'best'?!

gambitgambit Frets: 5
i've decided i need to try one out, so i can test it against some other light overdrives i've accumulated, and pick out what stays and goes.

so, like Rat and Tubescreamer clones, i guess there's a few versions which have clipping or extra eq options?

what particular pedals should i be looking at? i've seen mention of the 'KOT'.. and BYOC/GGG clones, but what else is out there?

The Mooer Blues Crab is very good indeed and will be staying on my board. Best value clone too.

Prince of Tone is an excellent option. Cheaper that the KoT and can give you an idea of what you can expect out of the bigger brother.

I believe the Xotic BB Preamp is based on the Blues Breaker but not sure.

The one Melx made me :D

It was more open than the KoT and the EQ is better. The KoT really doesn't do very much for the price it is. Sounded more compressed than the Melx.

Start with a straight up BB clone.

Never tried it. But is the JHS Morning Glory based on the bluesbreaker as well? Might be worth looking in to.
I recently bought and v.quickly sold a KOT V4; a fine pedal, but didn't justify its cost. The POT, as mentioned above, would be the more sensible buy of the two.
Me personally, id buy that clone off juansolo and start from there :)

    is Melx still knocking about?

am i right in thinking the BB's tone control was a high-roll-off control rather than a standard tone knob? i'm sure i read that somewhere..

The mooer one sounds pretty decent. Though it's a lot more attractive at the price I paid (~£28) than at the the price they currently are. :)) Also it's a bit of a one-trick pony, those tweaked clones with extra options might well be more useful.
