Hi all :)

Do any of you know where I can get a desk/office chair with flip-up armrests in the UK?
So far the only one I've found is in the US.
It would have to be comfy and durable as I work from home at a computer and would be used for several hours daily.

Not sure about the arms, but I went to Back2 for my current home office chair, and I'd say it's well worth going somewhere specialised if you're going to use it for that long at a stretch. I'd spent years in chairs that were too low for me - within a couple of weeks of changing to an RH Logic 400 my shoulders, which had been sore for as long as I could remember, stopped hurting.

Thanks for the recommendation, Andy, but they well over my budget and I do need the armrests to be easily moved out of the way (i.e, flip-up, flip-down, lower-able...). :)

I once bought a "normal" office chair, and had a saw... so the arm rests where removable...

Unfortunately the arm rests formed part of the structure holding the back in place and as I have a tendancy to sit back and bounce on such chairs about a year later there was a terrorfying moment of scariness when one arm gave way.

So I bought a chair with no arms - suddenly I could play guitar or use a computers from the same chair, without fear that it would suddenly snap and send me falling backwards

That is a great idea - flip up arms, goddam things are always getting in the way of the guitar.

Just had a look on fleabay, there is a nice one from Germany for 99 euros, if you're a bit of a boy racer type :P They ship to the UK too

    What's the budget then?

That eBay one doesn't look great to me - too low if you're over about 5'5" and you can't adjust the back angle relative to the seat base.

  • Didn't spot that, my French is pretty rusty. Will be watching this thread with interest and scouring about as I also need a new chair.

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

This looks perfect (apart from the boy-racer look which I don't really mind) as does the 2nd one, thanks @Zodiac51. :)

It is very similar in size to the one I'm using now and would work fine with my current desk height. ;)

I didn't see one during my last visit to the local Staples but it was a few months ago.
I can't see one on their website though. :(

There's 1 on their website - its a mesh one for £80 but I was sure there was a leather one in the store, perhaps it was a previous seasons model that hadn't sold

  • Thanks, Myranda. :)
Could you link me to the one on their website please?

    Sorry, had gone shopping

    You found it though.

I wonder, is there a market for guitarist chairs - ones with flippy/removable arm rests, perhaps somewhere to attach a foot rest for those who like one leg to be raised when playing seated, comfy with a back, head and lumber support in case you want to sit and place for ages... all while not costing a million monies (1 Ryan Reynolds!) available in leather (black, white and cream) or mesh (in more than one colour perhaps) but not looking like you need to be a top gear presenter before you like the design/colours...

    Hmmm

I have one of these being delivered in the next couple of weeks for my office at work.  Fixed (isn) arms though.

I can see the use for a flippy arms chair for a studio.

Yes, there could be a market for it, albeit a small one. :)

It's going to go in my office/music room, hence the flip-up armrests when I play guitar, as it should be quite obvious by now. :D

    Very nice chair, thumpingrug. :)
