Adding a ramp control to an effects speed

I would imagine this is not easy.  But say you have identified the resistor that changes the rate of a chorus, and you want to toggle between the old rate and the new rate.  Easy enough with a switch but would there be any way for the change to be gradual for a Faux leslie control on a chorus?  I want to try something on my CE-3, if it is possible.

With my electronic engineer's hat on, I'm thinking you could slow down the effect of turning the rate knob by charging or discharging a capacitor (R-C time constant etc). But I think that would only work if you were toggling between two voltage levels that set the two speeds. 

It's obviously done a lot in pedals but they tend to be digital Leslie emulations rather than analog circuits.
