What's Hot
...Bear Guitars?

https://www.bearguitars.co.uk/

A friend had one in his shop last week.

I’ll let the pics speak for themselves...

Apparently, they’re “...for guitarists who follow their own path...”

Errrr....maybe not, based on the ‘rustic’ qualities of that particular one.

Felt like a £40 Squier Strat which has been butchered in a school woodwork class...

:(

  • You have a knack for finding rather eclectic instruments it would appear.
i think this ones best left in the woods where bears do their business

I quite like the finish, but they look really shoddy, especially the visible second attempt at getting the bridge in the right place!

My thoughts exactly. Stylistically, I think it's quite the cool looking guitar.

  • Deliberately done to look like somebody has corrected somebody else's work?

Looks cool, but I'd soon tire of it. Unless it played great.

    Which it doesn’t. :(

I have wondered about these when seeing them before,   look like nice designs but not enough attention to detail obviously.

Does look like the bridge has been changed from a Scheller 3DS, but why??? Was it in totally the wrong spot

Things like this always make me worry about some of my early guitars that snuck out into the world ... But most of the early crudeness on my first ones  is hidden in cavities, not stuff you can see and they were not sold

I didn't know bears made guitars, but I do now!

It can't be easy working with those big hairy hands they have with the sharp claws sticking out and getting in the way. I've heard their eyesight isn't the best either, although they have a phenomenal sense of smell...

  • Not convinced by the neck joint/pickguard shape here... Nor the side break angle of that low E.

Rustic is certainly the word.  Which isn't necessarily bad, the same idea, better executed, would actually be quite appealing.

Looking at the neck joint made me smile, I did exactly the same with a Squier Strat years ago - ditched the neck plate, rounded the heel then put the neck back on with some brass washers under the screws.  The washers kept sinking deeper and deeper into the wood as I tightened the screws, I thought they'd never stop.  I'm a great believer in neck plates now.

Back of the one @Alterlifeson posted the link to. It’s not particularly pricey for a hand made instrument but even to the untrained eye that’s a bit underwhelming.

The string ferrules are astonishingly well-aligned - I've even seen worse on Fenders occasionally.

Oddly, it actually detracts from the overall made-in-a-hut-in-the-woods vibe!

  • Interesting
Maybe I have sold my guitar making abilities short and need to open up my new guitar building business on the basis of this.
