It doesn't matter if I had a spare £10k sitting around, that guitar would sound shit if I played it (with or without that pedal board and amp).

Ten grand for a 70's Fender? Pass.

Ditto.  So ludicrous I'm thinking the seller is flying a kite, see what the market will bear.

Well FWIW the forum 'bike' '72 Thinline has bounced around for prices in the mid £2-3k range for several years.  Doubt an extra year of antiquity increases its value fourfold.

  • Wasn't there a real '72 thinline on sale here for 2.5k last week?

  • I adore Carter Vintage, but that guitar is only expensive because of the colour. Someone will buy it to be the guy with the rarest of the rare. Which is fine, but a shame, because it's an ace sounding instrument

So that colour and the pink pearl scratchplate are original?  I've never seen one of those before.

I've seen another original lilac finish Thinline before, same colour scratchplate, at the Dallas vintage show in 1991. It didn't have a humbucker though it might be the same guitar...

The seller was asking a pretty staggering amount as I recall, maybe $3000 IIRC, and this was a time when custom colour pre-CBS 60s Strats were around 4 or 5k. There were quite a lot of amused raised eyebrows about it.

  • I was offered an all original one of these a few months ago. Asking price was 25k and it sold (not to me) fairly quickly for just under 22k so 10k for a routed one may be about right...
    It’s an extremely rare colour.
