That's if the Toneprint system actually works on a Mac, it still refuses to see my HOF mini, competitive price though

I've not tried my HoF mini via USB with my MacBook. Works fine from the iPhone app though, that's dead easy.

Argh, i have two thomann vouchers that I haven't decided what to do with and This is really tempting..

Not familiar with toneprint, would I be able to load a couple of the standard prints?

Absolutely. There's a couple of slots on the rotary dial for toneprints, so you can pick whatever you want from the Flashback library of toneprints.
That's not what my bank balance wants to hear!

Actually I remember the one thing that put me off the original flashback x4 is the lack of global tap tempo, which at the time I thought was a deal breaker. Would I be correct to assume that there's still no option for this?

No idea, I'll find out later this week when it arrives. I've had both the regular Flashback and Alter Ego version but never the x4. I use a TC Nova Delay (ib modified version) as my big delay with pre-sets. The new x4 might well end up replacing that, but I know I'll miss the BPM/mS LED you get with the nova.

I also have a nova delay and was a bit tired/bored of the 'digital-ness' of the sound, wanted something a bit softer, also I found changing presets a bit of a pita, though I managed it for a couple years so it was workable, just not straight forward end it took some forward planning/thinking.

I was looking at a x4, delaylab when a visual sound dual tap delay came up on eBay at a decent price so ended up with this and have been very happy with it. I also thought that I'd miss the bpm readout and I did for a little while, but then I realised that I only looked at it to indicate that the tempo had changed when I tapped it in, without it I have to trust my ears more for when the delay sounds out.

Will be interested to hear what you think of the alter ego x4 when you report back.. ;)

Sounds good. For the tone print slots, can you load non delay effects, i.e. Can you use the editor to have a chorus? And can you load different delays like filter delays?

You're limited to delay toneprints although there are loads of them including various modulated/filtered types.
    However....
There is a Flashback toneprint that replicates the TC 'tri-chorus' (with zero delay level) so there is one chorus option at least.
