    That looks like one of the very first mex strats, I believe they started about 95
     The logos are 1 colour & quite 'squierish' compared to the later ones

     The necks are pretty decent from memory

     Fair buy for 200£ imo

    My 94 Mex had a silver logo,

    Its my belief that the Squier Series MIM had the solid black label? But the factory was all over the place during that time, having burned down and that.

    ^that rings a bell.. did they say squier on the end of the headstock where the contour body text is on a usa one? Perhaps that's been removed

    It certainly looks like it, apparently quite a few of them became Fenders. But, there wasn't really a lot of difference anyway. Hardware was different, but they were basically the same thing.

    Wasn't there a ''deluxe'' or something being made at around that time too?

    Does this look … like a de-badged Squier Series.
    Yes.

    The eBay item has a slightly pale rectangular area on the headstock, where varnish may have been removed, exactly where the MIM Squier Series decal ought to be.

    The budget Kluson-style ‘heads with the misshapen ferrules are a dead giveaway. MIM Standard Series has the Schaller M6-style Ping Well ‘heads.

    "Professionally reliced in California".  Bollocks. Rusty old bridge and attacked with sandpaper maybe.

    The Ebay serial doesn't work on the Fender site, but does on this Squier page https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-squier_eng.php
    Same goes for the Squier Series headstock you posted @robgilmo ;

    Tell-tale Squier sanding-off and black Fender logo says Squier Series, but I thought they came with single-ply guards. The hardware and electrics were generally cheap end of Squier quality.

    As seen, £200 is about right.

    The corroded vibrato is probably a Sung-il with the skinny sustain block. Hence, no great loss if replaced by a steel block Wilkinson WVS.
