Recessed controls - useful?

What's Hot
I’ve often wondered why PRS Core models have recessed controls. Is there a functional reason or is it purely cosmetic?

They look nice, and by recessing them at the correct angle they match the flat surface of the inside of the cavity better than they would if they followed the carve of the top.

Recessing the controls also means that the rest of the control cavity doesn’t have to be so deep, and there’s more thickness of wood over most of its area. Useful when dealing with soft and fragile woods.

Makes a nice change from Telecaster controls that stick out half a mile.

In theory it helps keep them slightly out of the way of any weird frantic strumming too, though that only really affects the volume pot I guess! Looks nice though :)
