I guess it’s a Nashville Tele I’m looking for but just wandering if anyone knows any cheap alternative? At the moment I’ve found Fret-King do the sort of thing I’m looking for ... is there any other? (Other than modding a Squier or similar)

I'd stick with fender for resale value or hack up a squier. Amazon sell Nashville Pickguards

fender modern player tele. Has a splitable humbucker in bridge, and two single coils. i have one and love it (not for sale) but worth looking out for, about £300 350 used

My old US Standard is routed for a middle pickup and so is the Mexican Deluxe Tele, so see if you can find a used one in your price range.

Some USA Telecaster bodies are routed TSH. Buy one of those examples and a “Nashville” pickguard.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
