Favourite position on a traditional Strat.

I use position 3 on my HSS Jackson...
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

Yep - not wired to tone control can be great too.  Clear, strident.  Definitely has it's uses.

With filth or fuzz and tone wound down the quacky twang goes away and you get a fat sustainy lead thing. Can't hack it otherwise at all though.

I hate it without a tone control - strident is a good description. Leo had it right...

That said I prefer a single master tone really.

Is that the middle? Hell yes. Bridge - Not really.

I wonder if the flavour of pickups makes a difference, I imagine a bit at least?  I've got a Strat with '60's pickups and no tone on the middle and I like the sound as much as any of the other positions.

    Almost never, for some reason.

    Positions 1,2,4 and 5.

It's an awesome tone. Pride and Joy, All Along the Watchtower etc...

Yep, great open rhythm sound. I have the tone pots wired to the neck and bridge pickups - think that might be the Jimmie Vaughan wiring.

It's a happy medium between neck & bridge. Not too shrill, not too plummy. Although the neck can't really be called plummy. No other guitar sounds like a Strat neck pickup.

Try yo’ middle pickup when the guitar is tuned down a semitone to Standard Eb.  ;)

    Except some Tele neck pickups.
