  • I think one of the biggest differences now is so many of you youngsters had such great gear to start with.
The old farts of us in our 50's and 60's had such rubbish, it was amazing how we even learned to play. Guitars like Zenta, Audition, Kay, Jedson etc was absolutely awful all replaced by the late 80's with Squier, Epiphone, Tokai etc for the young guys on here.
I was a judge a couple of years back at local school for battle of the bands, all the kids had Fenders Gibson, PRS  and the like!

29 years ago aged 14 or so:

I am on the left but the no-name LP copy was my guitar.

Also note Gene Simmons' feet and Susanna Hoffs on the wall!

EDIT: Sorry about the open G, it won't happen again.
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

Yeah my guitar in the picture is a Kay catalog guitar which cost about £65 and was a piece of junk really. The other guy is holding his Hondo Les Paul copy with bent plywood top and single coil pickups hiding behind humbucker covers :)
Don't know what the bass is but it belonged to our school

No guitar tuners in those days, tuning was by ear ... I didn't get a tuner until I was about 18
