Hi all,

My NewMoon insurance is up for renewal, and it's rather high.... does anyone else have other suggestions for good insurance providers?

It's to cover 3 guitars, Kemper, speakers etc.

I’ve always found new moon to be cheapest by far, which is worrying as I’m due for renewal next month. Is their renewal price a lot more than last years?

I'm also with Newmoon, and my renewal has come through at the same price as last year. Before that I was with Music Guard, but it saved a lot going to Newmoon.

However I can't see myself gigging for months so tempted to let it slip, and take out a new policy as and when I'm back out there.

I swapped from Allianz to Newmoon last year and saved a load of money.

I've just renewed mine even though I'm not out playing at the moment. Most house insurance policies are just not written for extensive music equipment and often the single article limits are too low for a nice guitar.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

It's more than my last renewal with them - but still at least £80 cheaper than everywhere else I've looked at!

Similarly, I'm tempted to let it slip a couple of months until gigging and rehearsing again. However, sod's law something will happen when they're not insured....

I was with Newmoon, until the renewal notice came through. Had a chat with my house insurers and they put my one expensive to replace guitar as a named item on the policy. Got better cover than with specialist insurance, at half the cost.
My other passion is firearms! Does that make me a closet Redneck???

Just remembered I had a renewal email, my quote was the same as last years. I’ll be adding another fairly expensive guitar to it so hopefully it won’t go up too much.

Sainsburys House insurance is really good - my stuff is covered on that

Does new moon pay out cost of "new for old"?

I've got new moon for all of my stuff, anywhere in the UK and unattended vehicle cover.

Really easy to deal with and to amend the covered items when the GAS strikes.

I'm with Hencilla, mainly because they were the company that provided the MU's free insurance (£2k value is included with membership).  I could probably shop around actually, because I'm sure any company could provide a top-up policy to cover the extra gear I have.  My Hencilla renewal just came in and I was kinda surprised that no discount was offered since nobody has been taking instruments out for months (and presumably claims will have dropped accordingly).  I got £50 back from my house insurers without even asking.

Time to get some new quotes I think...

I'm with Allianz and need to add a few more items to my list, which would take the premium up a few quid so may be looking for a different company!

Actually, in fairness to Hencilla Canworth, a good thing about them is you no longer need to give details of specific instruments.  You just specify a total for instruments and another for other audio/visual gear and that's all they need.  Handy if you buy something new and pricey mid-policy and unless the worst happens and you need to claim for literally everything at once, you should always be covered.

Do the likes of Newmoon cover accidental damage?

I never bothered with insurance before but since I bought a fairly rare Rickenbacker I think I may want to get cover for it.

    Yes.

It's their "harmonic" policy I have, which covers accidental damage.

Never had to claim though, so I don't really know how good they are!

I’m with Allianz, worldwide cover (currently live in Paris) except unattended vehicle. It’s pretty expensive, £30 a month or so. Wonder if Newmoon offer international coverage?

Also, what are Newmoon like for needing proof of ownership / proof of value? Can see that being a pain for me.
