Explorers and colours

What's Hot
Right gassing for an explorer. But it seems it's only available in poo brown or boring black, or maybe old sickly "off-white because VINTAGE".

Why don't Gibson use more fun colours? I'd love a white (like, WHITE) explorer, like the Epiphone Lzzy Hale sig, but nitro finish, Gibson hardware etc. Would look ace. And not need a signature.

    I feel your pain.

I’ve had this since 2015 when I bought it. But I’ve been trying to upgrade with not much luck!
Really it should have been surplus by now but I should get around to sticking a for sale on here.

Not very traditional, but its white enough to blind angels. Though the camera has made it look off white, which its not..

The only easy day, was yesterday...

Gibson flirted with edge binding on the EX2 Explorer II with a flamed maple cap showing through a sunburst finish.

For boldly coloured Explorers, check out the offerings of John “JayDee” Diggins.

  • Blandburst doesn't count ;)

Nah, looks okay, but I'm more into solid colours than bursts on explorers...

I had a gothic one from the first run in about 1999, which was a ridiculous guitar but completely brilliant. These days I'm all about a natural finish mahogany 76-style - I'd love one one day, and maybe a matching V..

  • I reckon they'd look great in a sparkle blue, or Pelham blue. They have the right colours available, they just use them on les pauls and SGs...

Pretty sure they did a faded line a while back, which should give you faded cherry as an option.. still not that groundbreaking though!

I think Hamer's take on the Explorer was pretty tidy.

Oof, that's nice. Gibson, please do a faded version - just cheaply spray on a load of this nitro and be happy!

    That's a cracking looking guitar.

I played a Hamer explorer years ago. It had the most awesome V shaped neck I’ve ever played. Super cool guitars.

Mine's dark cherry, honestly it's a bit boring unless it's well lit. But...eh, I like it.

First Explorer I ever saw (probably about ‘76) was in Pelham Blue. Looked fantastic.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

  • I've had a few explorers in my time be it Gibson or esp, and agree with you guys normally you only see white or black ones, personally I'd I'd love to see one in a rose gold kind of finish.

They did dabble with a few colours in the 80s, in fact my local music shop had a red one, but boy did it look cheap in the flesh.

For sure there are colours it won't work in, but I was really surprised to see how few are available right now.

More so when you consider how many different types of burst there are...

    Sammy Hagar Red Rocker?

Mine’s black by the way, but not boring.

Explorers may be many things but they’re never, ever boring and every time I take mine out of its case I have smile at the sheer exuberant, slightly childish rIdiculousness of it. :-)

That blue one is damned Sexy,,,

Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...
