Something hollow for £500?

What's Hot
I fancy a hollowbody. No real reason other than I want to try one. I have solids of both humbucker and strat flavour, and a couple of acoustics. What's a fun, interesting, pretty option for something hollow? Assume budget of £500, secondhand.

Appreciate your thoughts.

I've got a Peerless Jazz City in the classifieds if that floats your boat, though I warn you it's had a single expression of interest in the last 3 years so it could go at any minute if you tarry.

How hollow are you are looking for?

I have (not for sale) an Epiphone Casino (true hollow body) and a couple of PRS's, an SE and an S2 custom Semi Hollows.  Pickups aside, they all sound very different.  You could almost grade them as very hollow to barely hollow.

There are loads of options available, so it would probably help if you can give some idea of the kinds of music you're into or any preferences?

A couple that are mentioned above are located in Yorkshire, and often sellers will be reluctant to ship this kind of guitar, so maybe worth saying where you are located?  The Peerless looks nice, certainly if you want a 'jazz' guitar.  The Patrick Eggle also is interesting, but I can't see a price on that one?

Anyway, good luck, lots of choices, but if you can let people know where you are, what you like, what you don't, what kind(s) of music you might play on a hollowbody, that would be useful.

Ibanez are the best I've tried, the higher the number the better. numbers over 100 are often £350-£450, and even though they are made in China, are only one step down from the £3k Japenese models
I've owned 2, one of these

    and
    this one

They also did a strat-shaped hollowbody, looked good in the shop
    AWD72, AJD91 etc awd102

If you get a Casino and put a heavier and better made  Gotoh bridge and stop tail  you will have nice guitar for 500.They will add some depth  and better resonance to it .I am not sure about the latest pickups so can't  comment. Most P90's sound decent anyway being a simple  design  .

Get an Ibanez.  Beautifully built and Big Bang for your buck. The AFS75 is a lovely guitar, I love how it feedbacks at volume, so lovely and easy to control.  Stock pickups are great too!

Can be had lightly used for a fraction of your budget.

Latest pickups are pretty good and have lots of lovely growl.  And there's no shortage of resonance either.

  • Answering some sensible questions from above...
I'm a beginner (3 years in) so I still don't feel qualified to have much of an opinion about anything guitar-related. So I don't know how hollow I want, iyswim. In all honesty I just want a new toy and something that will broaden my knowledge of what sounds are possible.  I play Clash, Green Day, Bowie, Cure, James. Live in Wimbledon.
