Advice on a walnut neck

Does anyone have any experience with walnut necks?

I'm debating if I should order a Kiesel , and they've just sent an email saying you can have a walnut neck as a free uncharge.
How does walnut compare to maple in terms of weight ( I'll be getting a neck through) and strength . I've seen walnut in laminate necks, but never on it's own. Cheers

Numerical comparisons can be found here https://www.wood-database.com/, not that they will tell you much about how walnut feels and sounds.

Thanks. I'll check that out. It'll be painted, so feel isn't an issue. Sound would be good to know, tho.

As a rough guide, I would say halfway between maple and mahogany.

Tells you nothing about the individual bit of walnut though

  • From looking at that wood resource website, walnut is a little bit softer and lighter than maple (kind of, as there's lots of different types of both woods). Thanks chaps. Maple it is!

Not quite the same thing, but I have a walnut neck on a Brook acoustic guitar. It's lovely. Whether it suits you is an entirely different question.
If you cant see the wood under finish, then why not ask Kiesel what they expect the difference to be?
As a wood to make a neck from - absolutely fine.

    Exactly this.

I love Walnut and have used it a lot for every part of a guitar in the past. It sounds great and feels great too and its definitely strong enough.
