@joneve - agree but if I'm putting that as number 5, then it's joint 5th with 6 degrees, images and words, awake, octavarium and probably at least a couple more. Amazing band.

  • Is there no love for the Roxy Music?

I am a big fan of some of their music, "Love is the Drug" and much of the album it was on especially, and their cover of Neil Youngs "Like a Hurricane" live is excellent.

Roxy Music .... an eclectic line up .. Ferry was dating one of the dancing girls at the time .... Manzanera was playing through a couple of Roland JC120 amps ...

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Here's something that might be new to you, Harmonium, a band from Quebec, Canada in the 70's.  They sing in French, and play a variation on prog.  I used to listen to this album over and over,, and it wasn't until about a year later that I noticed they didn't have a drummer!

Digging the Steve Hillage Fish Rising stuff !!!!!!! B-)
Surely a good prog thread should come in 3 volumes, each with full size double gatefold artwork featuring fantasy landscapes.

Only recently discovered Big Big Train (don't know how I missed them?) who are simply brilliant! It's very rare to encounter a "newer"* Proggy band that, although derivative in places remain completely original and fresh somehow.

*they've been around in various forms since the early 90s

    • Gnidrolog
    • Vanilla Fudge

You are very welcome sir. That album was my first experience of them as well...(bought it on a whim in HMV, popped it on in the car on the way home and nearly crashed the car from being distracted by its awesomeness! - true story!)

I've slipped out of touch with their newer material, but all their old stuff (up to and including Octavarium) is awesomesauce.

  • dream theater covers of comfortably numb & perfect strangers ... very creditable performances indeed, but I have a sneaking preference for the originals

So long as it's very very very long and is split into innumerable intricately-titled subsections.  :)

No that would be "Metal" :P
    No, definitely Prog :).

That's a great album, but not really prog...

I was in a band called Negative Earth once :).

    And "Is Eggs"! :-O

It wasn't in the comments box of the iTunes info I copied the rest from! Maybe they ran out of room.

Damn, that's it... I tried adding it manually and it disappears again. Must be a character limit. What's a serious prog fan to do if they can't be trusted to allow enough room for seven properly-titled subsections?!
