Most places can't spell my name.

Ah... Starbucks fretboards.... look like fret boards, but don't really have much fretboard in them. Generally a bit on the "thin" side.

Staining has been going on for over a century that I can show.  I have a 1917 Washburn parlour guitar that has Brazilian rodewood back and sides and what looks like an ebony bridge.  About 20 years ago, the bridge split and I took it to a luthier to have it repaired.  When he removed it he found that it was stained rosewood.  He re carved an ebony bridge to replace it.  It is a great guitar and record and plays excellently (unless you don't like triangular neck profiles).

Yea, as silly as it sounds darker maple and darker rosewood just looks better. But I wouldn't not buy a guitar because of it, I'd just stain the board.

I like a lot of different colours and grain patterns, but I’m least keen on pale brown or orangey colours - just don’t like the colours, nothing more. And I really dislike dry or rough boards irrespective of colour.

I've been painting all my fretboards white after Billy Corgan
pronounced that white guitars sounded best.

I suspect vintage folklore has a lot to do with this - people thinking that all vintage guitars have dark rosewood boards.

    They definitely don’t....

    What? Frothy?
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it
