Guys, recently I asked a question about a Gibson 60th reissue, which I was planning to buy as a 30th birthday present for myself.

Long story short, my birthday was in late May and due to a number of factors I never got to the Gibson. I will cut to the chase and just post the pictures to share the happyness - Suhr Modern Koa & Novo Serus SV.

    That koa looks amazing

Surely too scary using that kind of guitar rack with Suhrs and PRSs!
    Too easy to scratch one

I am embarassed to admitt that I just had to share this with someone first, but I have just assembled a Hercules guitar rack! :) I mostly keep my guitars in their gig bags, but one is always on the rack just to motivate me to pick it up :)

Thanks guys! This is my first Suhr and the playability is unreal. The SS frets are an absolute gamechanger.

What's the neck on that Suhr? Baked maple or rosewood?

I am afraid my response will start a holy war.

Its Pau Ferro. I know some people hate it, but it feel incredible. Its almost soft, but at the same time its not. Very hard to describe.

Despite the bizarre headstock, I do like that Novo.

Pau Ferro would be the fingerboard...

i think the neck is mahogany.

Nope, its pau ferro :) The whole neck is made of pau ferro - you can't confuse it with anything else. The moderns that most shops have in stock have a pau ferro board, but this guitar's neck is 100% pau ferro. I will post some more pics of the Novo in a few hours - can't stop playing :D

Interesting, two pretty different things there that I wouldn't usually think would be bought by the same player. Novo is class - post more pics of it!

  • Hey guys! :) Thank you, yes, very very different guitars. In fact, it seems that my whole guitar family is very different. Its pretyt amazing how every one is unique in a very particular way. The pau ferro board is clearly very special.

The Novo is very different in its own way. A bit more resonant and it has a very distinct smell (???!!!). Surprisingly both guitars have a very vintage tone - the Suhr sounds even a bit more vintage and rounded to my ears.

One thing that could have been better is the metal plate on the Novo, as the corners are quite sharp, but I guess its part of the vintage appearance!

    Don't click this link

If this had neck binding I might have to go and buy it.

  • Guys, just FYI, Novo still fullfill custom orders. The FX and VAT on import will offset each other, so the final price will likely be the same as at Coda.
