I briefly owned the regular solid one, and now the video of Warren Huart and Philip McKnight is gassing me up. Even if now is exactly the wrong time. Has anyone tried it? It must be stupidly lightweight.

Yup. As mentioned in another Vela thread, I have the recycled Brasilian shed model. Very light. Very resonant. Very long wait for shop to fulfil pre-order. Well worth it.

I imagine it's not as bright as the solid body?

It strikes me as the perfect guitar for funk/RnB, amongst other things.

Dunno. Never had access to a solid body example or the vibrato-equiped S2 Studio to draw comparisons.

The reclaimed wood version is, in part, built from different timbers to the regular semi-hollow model.

My example is just a guitar. I manage to extract most of the noises I would wish from it. I try not to burden instruments with preconceptions of how they *should* sound.
