Anyone got any tips on this. I've found one I like the look off, but don't want to call them until I have my thoughts together.

What is the best way to gauge the true value of one of these?

What angles are good for knocking down the price?

What premium should you pay to buy retail instead of private?

What assurances should you ask for?

Anything else?

Open with "whats the lowest price you can do" ;)

In all seriousness though, don't do that.

The best one is, "I really like your guitar, but don't have the full amount. Can you sell it to me for what I have?"

I've had that line on here a few times.... how to put a seller off in message.

Why not, I use it whenever I buy a used item that I feel is overpriced, house, car, guitar, probably saved me thousands over the years.
My other passion is firearms! Does that make me a closet Redneck???

The price negotiation is the last of your worries.....concentrate on its authenticity. Under no circumstances trust what the dealer says no matter who they. Get a second opinion. We are seeing so many fakes right now, and a shocking amount of vintage Strats that have repro parts....and bodies.

This. As I said in PM, treat all as fakes until proven otherwise. Use nose!
