Ok, it’s blues and it’s certainly nothing new but if the folk who love blues but don’t like the “guitar shredder” blues. Perhaps these guys are right up your street? They are pretty new as a band and although they play within themselves they have some pedigree as players too.

What do you think?

I loved them when you shared them on FB,, but they are just doing what JD Mcpherson, Pokey Lafarge, Black Keys etc have done many times before. But then so is everyone else I suppose.

I was thinking beardy JD McPherson.

I like that kind of thing but it’s definitely within the genre and it lacks much of the character of the original song

It's OK but it's just recycled 1960's English white boy blues .. reminds me of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in places and countless other bands long since forgotten. Nothing new .. they might appeal to a younger generation but old boys like me will go 'twas better in the 60's' ... :-)

Good luck to them though .. if they can attract a younger audience ..

Funny cause their name is obviously derived from the gear!

I like a lot of blues, but that was just too generic for me.

I dont hear any AM stuff in what they are doing. I love the Arctics too.

I hear what they are doing and think they actually sound authentic. There isnt a world of difference between what these guys are doing and what Magic Sam was doing on West Side Soul.  As it happens I dont hear any Peter Green in this either.

The guitarist is this band is Charlie Musselwhites guitarist. He must be doing something right to make it into his band as hes had more great guitarists in with him than Winona Ryder (to paraphrase Courtney Love).

I get the principle: lets strip out some of the bad taste elements that took hold in the wake of the 60s white blues boom - slick virtuosity, pyrotechnic vocals, over the top emoting - and get closer to what made Muddy great. And to be fair you do end up with something a little more tasteful.  The problem is they're by no means the first to go down this road and they're not adding enough of their own.  I'd go and see them in a pub with a few mates and a few beers, maybe, but I wouldn't listen to their records.

Sounds to me like a pretty straight British 60's blues jam. Around '65?

no not really. Id say as far from british sounding RnB/Blues as it could be. 2 very different records. They started out as a fun side project for a few session guys including Luther Dickinson doing covers of really old blues in a garage rock style, but new record is very 50s RnB with more swing.
Whilst they didnt blow me away like JD McPherson did live, with a stand up bassist and 5 piece band, these guys with 2 electric guitars and a drummer are still a joy to watch and listen too.
