It’s not like I even want a versatile guitar...

What's Hot
One style, one tone, one amp, a few pedals. Anything more versatile just drags me away from what I wanted to achieve.

I want a guitar that does one thing really well, not a dozen things averagely.

I want a guitar with one pickup, a tone knob that doesn't work (don't use them anyway) and a volume knob where the pot is too narrow so it just spins aimlessly.

    That's what I call versatile.

  • One single coil neck pickup and no controls.
The signal processor does all the EQ and its pedal controls the volume.

I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

Agreed. No point in having versatility if you want lots of guitars

Yes, versatility is the enemy of the GAS afflicted and procrastination is the thief of time.

I tried to buy one guitar that did it all for years, but it's not possible sadly - especially if you like jazz

There's a lot to be said for the joy of a 1 pickup guitar with just a volume control and maybe a tone if it's a P90. No messing about and feels weirdly liberating even though I rarely stray from my bridge pickup anyway.

  • A while back I revelled in a guitar with loads of switching options on the basis of more sounds = more versatile. These days I aim for a single
sound that’ll cover all my bases. That’s the new versatile for me. And less of a pain in the arse.

Funny how bassists never seem to have this problem. ;)

You can't think about such things when you have to keep repeating in your head "1..2..3..4..".

Pretty much this, though I ideally want 12 guitars that each do one thing really well.

I like having 4 or 5 electrics that do different things. I don't really want a one pickup guitar but a Jr is less money than a gold top.

Guitars generally do a couple of things well and OK on others. Yesterday I played my strat into a clean vox type amp with a fuzz factory. That covers clean and extreme filth but for classic rock I'd use my les paul. And an overdrive.
