Great amp and guitar partnerships

Hi all, I've always wondered what amps and instruments work well together! The first time I noticed the big difference was with my Doheny V12. It sounded fine with through my musicman amp, but plugging it into my 5f1 clone, and well, a new world blossomed with tonal harmony! In saying that my Jazzmaster sounds awesome through the musicman, it's got that classic surf sound, full rhythmical and the tremolo can put you in a trance. Likewise my Legacy Special is like a new guitar through the champ - full of character, where as it's lacking a bit through the musicman.

Gibson into Marshall. It's just the best for anything with big riffs. Tele into a Marshall JCM800 sounds great too. It can be very bright but awesome in a mix with 2 guitars. The other guitarist in an old band of mine used this setup and he cut through and sounded huge whilst I was sitting more in the mix with my SG into Laney.

I've always found Gibson (PAF style) into Fender deluxe/twin, clean-ish, to be a great combo.

Les Paul into a Plexi Les Paul into a JCM 800 Strat in to a Plexi Fender guitar into Fender amp PRS into a Rectifier Ibanez into a Rectifier I mean you could just go on and on. So many classic tones have been created by a combination of a certain guitar into a certain amp.

Lots of classic combinations out there, tele into a tweed or AC is a definite favourite. Might not be to everyones taste but something EMG loaded into a Mesa has something going for it and is widely used in metal.

I get great tones at home which sound rubbish in a live setting, which for me (ymmv) is what it’s all about - the mix when playing with another guitarist. I play P90’s through a Marshall clone, while the other guitarist plays a Rickenbacker into a Vox. Gives a nice blend.

Yeah. When I went to try the Jazzmaster I bought, they let me try it through a 68 Princeton, I ended up ordering the amp pretty soon after as they sounded so good together.
