How would you get this sound?

I have an original AxeFx, and I'd really like to get a specific stratty sound but I'm not getting close at the moment so I'm looking for tips from people better than I at analysing guitar tones!

How would one go about getting this sort of guitar tone - Mateus Asato from 1.30 in this video?

To me it sounds like a typical bright Strat neck pickup into a Marshall type amp or a Bluesbreaker style overdrive into any type of cleanish amp.

He’s using a fender super reverb. Get one of those...

Here's a gear rundown with him from 2018:

It just sounds like a generic Strat tone to me. The amp is probably the most important part to his tone....a pretty clean amp but pushed, I reckon he’s got the volume turned way up.

  • Neck pickup of course.
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

You can get that kind of clean sounding drive with good low string definition from pretty well any setup which gives you the option of a bit of upper mid/treble boost before the distortion.

That's pretty much the key to emulating that pushed Fender/SRV thing, ie, treble before amp/reduce treble ON amp.

I've never used an AxeFX, but try setting up a warm Marshall tone with medium drive and bung a graphic EQ in front of it with about a 6dB lift at around 2.5k.

Thanks, I'll see what I can make of that!

There’s truth in that. I used a Fender 4x10 Super for several years with a Tele that had a stacked Strat neck pickup and bridge humbucker with a treble boost pedal in front of the amp and got sounds very much like those heard in that video.
