I had a '60s style Japanese one and it was junk, the neck was nice as had a very smooth matte like finish. But it sounded awful and so I soon got rid of it. This would have been around '94 or '95.

Could just have been mine of course, but I played few after and they were all a bit dead sounding compared to my '87 Japanese '50s reissue and '60s models that I owned.

Mine was a blue/black colour scheme with the rosewood board.

Personally, I think they looked pretty bad close up as well, but that's is just my opinion of course.
