I've had a couple of ehx switches fail on me, which is a shame as they're often my favourite effects. Touch wood, my Qtron is still okay and looks relatively well built, but does have plastic washers inside. It's also the same pcb as the Qtron plus so it should be moddable to that, which is quite neat.

The big problem I come across is surface-mount component failures. This is common to both modern (diecast box) EH and also some other pedals, including MXR. It makes repair very difficult, even if you can trace the fault. Worse, EH use crap true-bypass switches mounted on PCBs which break and are a bugger to change, and poorly-mounted jacks as JDE said. The older sheet-metal box ones aren't as bad, although some of them do have rather flimsy power supply connections.

Ended up being lucky and picked up a used one off tgp for a decent price. Hadn't seen any of these come up for sale second hand in the EU before so couldn't resist.

What's it like? I heard demos and, while bonkers, I wasn't really sure what to make of the sounds it makes and whether it's useful!

Fun? yes.  I just noodle and seeing what weird thing it does most of the time.

Useful? not that useful for the stuff that I like to play, not much Chorus in that.

It is just a bonkers beyond crazy pedal with sounds that personally I would never listen to on a track, it is however fun to experiment with.

At this moment in time it's the 5F6 but I love all of my pedals. Best tweed-in-a-box/blackface Fender sound I've ever heard from a pedal. It can be a boost and with middle up, it can even mimic a more refined tubescreamer. It can transform a nothingy clean sound into something lively and warm and it works well on bass too.

 Up until today, I hadn't seen a pic of the TC Alter Ego Delay X4 and that looks really nice.
