Interesting how high the pole pieces are on Keith’s Custom. Is that to get more of a single coil sound?

It looks like the pickups are set very low, probably for picking clearance, so maybe it's just to offset that?

Someone took a photo of the guitar with the pick ups out, and it is indeed a long tenon joint.  Nice!
