Man you've really gone all in on the Gretsch

I think you are missing a nice Tennessee Rose in that collection :)
How do Tennessee Roses differ....I’m a bit confused by the difference between those and Country Gents. Also the whole Hilotron thing?
There were two distinct models of Tennessee Rose in the 2000’s.

Ignoring differences in pickups there was one with the sealed Electrotone body with painted F-holes, waffle bracing and a sound post, 24.75” (Gibson) scale length and a bar bridge, while the other had a thicker body, real F-holes, not sure what bracing it had but not waffle, 25.5” (Fender) scale length and (I think) a Tuneomatic bridge.

Even though they are both called Tennessee Roses, they were very different instruments.

Thanks that’s really helpful, I guess waffle bracing and painted f holes are to be avoided then.....

  • The long awaited White Falcon arrived this morning and before I split the band up by selling one of these bad boys I wanted to get a group shot.

Looks fab! But my question is, which one is of the band is getting the 'Brian Jones Treatment' and going on the chopping block? Must be like Sophie's Choice!

I have one of the Electrotone body ones and it is definitely a bit different from other Gretsches I’ve played.

I removed the Bigsby and bar bridge and replaced them with a floating tailpiece and a Tuneomatic, I found that the weight of the Bigsby seemed to kill the vibration of the top and with the bar bridge made the low end kind of woofy and the high end plinky - for picked arpeggios the strings were very unbalanced - too much bass on the lower strings and the too much zing on the high strings.

That said I love a Bigsby otherwise and haven’t encountered that issue with other Gretsches. I’m not sure if the Electrotone body Country Gents have the same construction.

Well I've just sold 2 amps on here and I think I'm about to sell my Ritchie Blackmore Strat to @flyingv ,  that may be enough to tide me over if I just eat pot noodles until March and don't leave the house. Lockdown part 2 cant come soon enough for my bank balance ....

From past observations, there's always a Mick Taylor / Ronnie Wood type waiting in the wings...... ;)
